The Living Forest (468) : Brimstone
The brimstone is a butterfly that lives in Europe, North Africa and Asia as far east as Mongolia.
It’s one of the longest living butterflies, up to 13 months, although most of its time is spent in hibernation (sometimes its long sleep begins already by the end of august).
It’s also often the first butterfly to be seen in spring, sometimes as early as january when hibernating adults of this species are awoken on a mild sunny day.
