The Living Forest (67) : Ruddy Darter (female)

Insects play a very important role in the living forest (pollinate process, natural housekeeping, food for songbirds,…)
Most of them can be found in the open spaces, like this Ruddy Darter.

This dragonfly-species has a huge colour distinction between the male which is strong vivid red, while the female has a yellow-brown colour.

Dutch name : Bloedrode heidelibel (wijfje)
German name : Blutrote Heidelibelle (weibchen)
Latin name : Sympetrum sanguineum

Great, vivid tones and light on her wings and body. As she lets down her wings looks to be sad :-) But I think she has no reason for it ... She was photographed by an excellent explorer :-)
    Hugs, kati
