The old stone quarry

Old remnants of deserted stone quarrys are usually found on the Aegean islands as the majority of them are of volcanic origin and,since the early stages of their civilization,stone mining was a significant source of commerce and prosperity.Many of those quarrys continued in action since the 50ties or early 60ties only to be gradually abandonned and deserted.Now they are an interesting site for photography mainly because, many of them,ended by being almost in the sea.
The photo was taken in a very windy day, hardly I could keep the tripod on the ground.I've used big slide film, trying to capture all the magic of the site, (Velvia 50 120 6x4,5). Then I scanned the positive aiming to the resulted"pictorial" photo.

Perhaps such quarries were abbandoned because of the encroaching seas, but what ever, this is a fine seascape with that incoming tide showin g the strength of the wind.:))
