The time tunnel

AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU visited in 2004. Flowers were placed on the railway track and the colours stood out against the drab colours of the rocks and railway tracks seemed to echo the mood of the camp. It was like stepping through a time warp. In my mind's eye, I saw the steam bellow from the train's engine as guards, holding back leaping German Shepherds, rolled the doors of the cattle carts open.
