The train used to stop here...
The Northern Central Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad was once home to meandering local trains serving communities north of Baltimore as well as speeding long-distance trains bound for Chicago, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Detroit, and other destinations.
The once upon a time right-of-way is now a popular hike and bike trail. But the iron and wood bench at Monkton Station in Baltimore County is a nostalgic reminder of when the "Liberty Limited" and other speeding expresses thundered by ... but also when less glamorous, but still popular, locals would stop, steps away.
