to the monastery 2
Greece Aegean Sea Cyklades Amorgos
On the way to the historic monastery of Hozoviotissa in Amorgos. The monastery is dedicated to Holy Mother and it was built in 1088 by the Byzantine emperor Alexius Komnenos. It is perched on a rock at 400m above sea level.
Photo with a MAMIYA AFD using a 120 6x4,5 Velvia slide film, later scanned to digital and converted with a red filter to monochrome.

Once again fantastic, and not just the way the monochrome looks, the monastery way up there is proof of man's ingenuity and madness in his urge for spiritual enlightenment.SINA 01/07/2014 23:37

my first thought – very mundane, i'm afraid ; ) – was that the architecture of that ancient monastery, with its rounded walls and whitewashed look seemed strikingly up--to-date – like a forerunner of today's postmodern architecture… for some strange reason i'm thinking frank gehry… great, all those different kinds of rock in the image – man-made (steps and walls) and nature-made in perfect harmony! greetings, sabine.Lawson McCulloch 29/06/2014 20:09

This is a superb scene with the ancient Monastery clinging to the cliff and the path leading us there. One has to marvel at the ingenuity of those who built this place.:))
