Hi Sue,
I have used a small aperture because i wanted the biggest part of my picture to be in focus.
I did not think the option you mentioned. Next time :)

no, no skaters on this side. It was a little bit dangerous because the sun was shining in the direction of the lake. So most of the skaters chose the smaller canals close to their homes.
