Vancouver Impression No.1 - Centennial Fountain and Reflections in a Glass Wall

An Ektachrome Travel Moment...
...for Adele Oliver and any who might remember...

This Ektachrome moment depicts one of my favorite spots in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia.

I discovered it during a perfect-weather late summer visit in 1999, as I stepped out of the Hotel
Vancouver and crossed the street into the wide plaza fronted by the hotel and the Art Gallery.

The plaza's focal point for me was the Centennial Fountain with its colorful
mosaic basin and tall cascades of water glistening in the afternoon sunshine.

It was always on my list for a return visit, for more extensive shooting.

After scanning this transparency earlier this month, I learned to my surprise and disappointment that the
fountain is no longer there, replaced by a re-design of that space along Georgia Street a few years ago.

So I guess my "Ektachrome Memories" of the fountain will have to
suffice as the sole souvenirs of a fondly remembered spot in a favorite city.

In this long lens tele-compressed view, the glass fronted TD Bank tower reflects an abstract view of the
iconic green roof and other aspects of the stately Hotel Vancouver as well as some modern architecture along
Georgia Street as the waters of the Centennial Fountain dance in the sunlight of a September afternoon.

This is the photo's first appearance. It was shot on Ektachrome EL-400 slide film.
