Wapping- the old warehouses
Wapping is a district in London Docklands situated along the North Bank of Thames. Is an area in which many devoted Londoners, although considering themselves as experts, may have never set foot on. Rich with history was formerly the home of docks where ships unloaded cargo from the farthest corners of the empire and where gallows grew haunted with the hangings of thieves and criminals.
Wapping was devastated by German bombing during WW2 and together with the post war closure of the docks, remained a deserted and derelict area till the early 80's when the London Dockland's development Corporation undertook the redevelopment of Docklands and transformed the area and part of Wapping to a region with many commercial, light industrial and residential properties many of them luxurious and very expensive. Yet wandering the streets the old character is very evident keeping the area a very interesting historic sample.
In the photo the main street where one can see warehouses with the old windows and iron constructions strongly reminding old time New York also in Greenwich and Tribecca side.
