good old Venetian prison.... the top floor is directly below the metal roof where prisoners were meant to literally fry under the hot sun
the Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) had a trap door in the middle that opened for certain prisoners (they didn't know) who then fell into the canal.....
symbols of power of the Council of Ten!
nice shot taken from the Riva dei Schiavoni obviously that has yet another story attached to it.....
