Good morning Sue, thank you. You know what makes it even sadder : we have quite a few Uranium mines, a little further up there is the Husab MIne (Chinese!!!!) which has the second richest Deposit in the world, then there is Rossing (Rio Tinto) Alvera and a few more, this one is the furthest down the river and the ore is very low grade, that is why they have to remove so much of the canyon. The Husab MIne is also situated in a Nature Park on the Welwitchia Plains, beautiful almost religious landscape where the welwitchias grow an ancient plant related to the fir tree and up to 2 000 years old. I tis incredibly sad to lose this area as well but one can find understanding because it is such a rich deposit. Here in the Swakop Canyon it is not and there should have been a break off point how far down Government allows mining Activities. Here in the Swakop Valley it is the Australians exploring, they are very active in mining.Wish you a good weekend, best regards to you, cathy
Sue, I have to be honest! I came to our grocery store to buy some fruits. After shopping found these guys just on a few meters distance from the store. So I took out from my bag camera and started own entertainment:-)))
I have my camera in the bag all the time!
Thanks for your comments!
Best regards
Tania

Thanks for the nice comment and the link to the Mount Pleasant Windmill. Good to read that it is now on display in a mill museum. In the Netherlands the care for these legacies of the past is also increasing. Once the Netherlands counted over 10000 windmills. Today there are about 1200 left, but at least they are taken care for!
