T r a c e s

of a man and his camel carved into the side of the rockwall - Petra in Oct. 2015

Petra is a historical and archaeological city in the southern Jordanian governorate of Ma'an that is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Another name for Petra is the Rose City due to the color of the stone out of which it is carved.
Established possibly as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Arab Nabataeans, it is a symbol of Jordan, as well as Jordan's most-visited tourist attraction] It lies on the slope of Jebel al-Madhbah in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
The site remained unknown to the western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage". Petra was named amongst the New7Wonders of the World in 2007 and was also chosen by the Smithsonian Magazine as one of the "28 Places to See Before You Die". (excerpts from Wiki, thank you)

Rechts ist der Mensch noch deutlich konturiert und nach links wird der Fels dann immer "schleimiger", für mich ein absolut faszinierender Anblick....
    Liebe Grüße, Ernst

absolutely fascinating!! and, in itself – a man and his camel immortalized in stone –, a great metaphor for organic life in the face of eternity! what is art but a means to make us, that would otherwise be forgotten in the blink of an eye, be remembered for a while ; ) and leave traces… beautifully captured, adele! the shades of ocher, the roseate glow and the soft contours and weathered textures – just magical! must have been absolutely thrilling, your trip back in time and human history! hugs, sabine.

Nearing to the entrance of the canyon one starts to come across ruins that offer evidence of the high level of the Nabatean civilization. Amazing to think that around the first century AC, the wealth of the Nabateans reached its climax with all caravans moving from east to west passing through Petra!...The rosy colour characteristic....
    best regards alex
