This fungus is usually growing in clay soil, but always under or in the close neighbourhood of poplars.
The shot shows the last stage of its life.

Again, the species has no English name.

I can just say the german name "Dunkelschuppiger Risspilz" fits perfectly to this bizarre looking fungus ( but the dutch name sounds more nice in my ears :-) ) Excellent capture with great sharpness and colors. It's always intersting to look at your pictures Mark.
