Along the Albula Line
It’s late afternoon on a perfect autumn day, and this Bernina Express train on the Rhätische Bahn is returning from its long, scenic journey to Tirano, Italy. It has just crossed the Landwasser Viadukt and is heading up the Albula Line of the RhB, bound for Chur.
Its passengers have seen an impressive variety of Alpine landscapes, including stretches above the tree-line and snow-capped peaks on the Bernina route; and many more stunning vistas will present themselves in the wildromantisch territory of the Albula Line, before it descends to the confluence of the Hinterrhein and Vorderrhein at Reichenau-Tamins and begins its sprint up the Rhine to its terminus at Chur.
More views along the Rhätische Bahn may be found in my Rhätische Bahn and Kodachrome folders.

Another great shot from across the gorge where the 26m-long tunnel in front of the train will swallow only a small part of the BerninaExpress. When the last car will still roll inside the short tunnel the engine may well be above the Schmittentobel(dark section left) on the same-name viaduct.
Cheers,
Tom
