Bergenia

Bergenia is a plant native to the Western Himalayas, Afghanistan & Tadzhikistan that likes to grow on moist rocky slopes.

This very hardy species can grow in climates with extreme temperatures ranging from about -40°C to +50°C.
It's getting more and more popular in European gardens as an early spring bloomer.

Common names for Bergenia are “pigsqueak” (due to the sound produced when two leaves are rubbed together) and “elephant’s ears” (due to the shape of the leaves).

Dutch name : Schoenlappersplant
German name : Himalaya-Bergenie (auch Wickelwurzen genannt)
Latin name : Bergenia ciliata x stracheyi
