The successive crises in the fishing world during the last twenty years have been fatal to many harbours. Audierne has managed to preserve its maritime activity by specialising in inshore fishing while respecting the resources. Today, the harbour still counts around fifty boats, shared between gill netters and longliners which employ 150 seamen. The gill netters catch in their wide mesh nets monkfish, brill, John Dory, Lobster or crayfish bear Sein Channel. The longliners practise dangerous line fishing in the frothy waters of the « Raz de Sein » appreciated by bass, sea bream or Pollack.
One of the major specialties of trolling the Raz de Sein is trolling surface. This fishery is practiced in areas of strong current in the perpendicular rock barely emerged when hunting the bar.
