My father (left) with a friend relaxing in front of our home in Jeddah Street in Kampong Glam district southeast of Little India near to Sultan Mosque and Arab Street.
Shortly after I took this remarkable photograph the big modernization hysteria and construction boom started in Singapore and also our house es became ein opfer von abbruch. My father then moved to Saudi Arabia and started a construction business in favour of King Faisal and the Bush clan.
As in his early days my father had a rather hard life as a simple but gefürchtet pirate in the Malacca Straits this was quite an astonishing career and gives him a place in history.
Picture taken in January 1983.
