My Maastricht Diary #12
In the Netherlands - also beginning here in Germany - the last years
have been the end of the sacred use of many churches due to the
vanishing religious activity. So many churches now have a new function
such as here in Maastricht - as a very atmospheric bookshop!

HelloWhen at Maastricht I used to rent a bike on my scarce free time I used to go streets down, one fine morning I met this church..as I can't speak Dutch I asked a girl what the sign meant..she shook her head and told me I'll try I don't understand this dialect..
I was shocked first learning that wasn't a church anymore, and more knowing that in such a small country they used different dialects, she explained me about an old one and a new one and advised me to visit the Hell's gate..what a tiny and lovely city..

books under the generous shelter of the arched church roof – i find this symbiosis quite appealing! the atmosphere radiates a certain "casual sacredness" – if that's not a contradiction in terms… beautifully captured, berthold! like leonid, i love the subdued tones, and the detail of the little christmas tree in the back! greetings, sabine.Françoise P 13/01/2014 9:37
