Aegean Sea Island of Patmos
Patmos is just a tiny spot in the middle of Aegean Sea. But, apart from fine shores,it's loaded with religious history.It is in a cave of this island that St John the Evangelist had visions and wrote the apocalypse. In this place of the cave, Byzantine emperor Alexius Comnenus built in 1080 an imposing monastery(St John's monastery) that has become the emblem of Greek Orthodoxy and was also declared by Unesco as world's Heritage. The monastery is located in the highest point of the island, overlooking the capital Chora, and is havily fortified because of threats of piracy and the Seltzuk Turcs. It is also loaded with frescoes and mosaics.

I can see why it was chosen as a world heritage site, such a beautiful place which is so full of history.

Wow - again you take a brilliant bw-photography. The tonal values and the hard contrasts underline the well composed image formation with these white houses and that dramatic sky. And I also like this 6x6-format, fits very well. Impressing!
