Sub-Surface Underground Station, Paddington

London's extensive Underground system has a strong appeal for the train
photographer. So much variety...deep tube stations far beneath the streets
of the metropolis...those same trains running above ground outside the central city.

But my favorites are the sub-surface lines, which enter their stations
often from the outside environment rather than a deep tube's tunnel.

Also appealing - the trains are heftier in profile. AND the stations, such as this
one at Paddington are so evocative of the days of steam railroading...dark brick...
wooden benches...not at all confining...and, of course, lots of fresh air.

Here, a new S-stock train enters the sub-surface station at Paddington.
The modern Bombardier trains are spacious, allow passage between
cars and have air-conditioning, which is not feasible on deep tube trains,
as the tunnels do not have adequate space for warm air to be exhausted.

The moment was captured late on a brisk November night.
