The Fungi World (192) : Wild Dry Rot
In winter fungi are rare, but they do exist, like this Wild Dry Rot fungus, a lichen lookalike.
A tree on which this fungus grows, is always doomed to die.
(can also grow on untreated wood in buildings)
Dutch name : Dakloze huiszwam
German name : Wilder Hausschwamm
Latin name : Serpula himantioides

Der Pilz hat sich schon stark ausgebreitet und der Baum wird ihm zum Opfer fallen. Eine starke Aufnahme!!!LG Renate

great shot of the this winterly antibiosis between a the survivor fungus and the goner tree! ; ) oh, and i have a fungus story to tell: a couple of years ago we had to chop down the willow tree in our back yard. the stump is still there and has a fungus growing on its surface – a very frozen one these days… yesterday i watched a red squirrel (a frequent visitor to our garden, and a notorious looter of the bird feeder!) snack on it. broke pieces off and gobbled them up – for desert! he'd already stuffed himself on the seed buffet. sometimes he falls asleep in the feeder, filling it out completely – so cute to watch, that i forgive him the looting… ; )) greetings, sabine.Brigitte Hoffmann 25/01/2013 19:11
