The Living Forest (318) : Honeysuckle Azalea

It’s wonderful in the forest when at this time of the year the Honeysuckle Azalea displays his glory in full bloom with an explosion of yellow.

Honeysuckle Azalea is a huge shrub native to southeastern Europe and southwest Asia.
The bright yellow flowers are strongly perfumed, but -what is generally little known- their nectar is toxic !

The shrub is widely cultivated in western Europe but is also locally naturalised and colonised in mainly wet forests.

Dutch name : Bosazalea
German name : Pontische Azalee (auch Gelbe Alpenrose genannt)
Latin name : Azalea pontica (syn. Rhododendron luteum)
